Born in London, Ontario and raised in Sudbury, Scott Turnbull is the name behind a friendly, likeable and personable host who has worked various radio formats, every time slot, and on a number of radio stations since the mid 1970s. Scott launched his career following graduation from Fanshawe College in London.

Scott was heard on the CKSO AM airwaves from 1976 to the early 1980s. Before Sudbury, he was on CKDR AM in Dryden and then CFCO AM in Leamington, near Windsor. After Sudbury, Scott headed to North Bay and eventually Thunder Bay.

By 1988 Turnbull was in Sault Ste. Marie and although he thought he’d only be in the city for a short while, he would remain there up to and following his retirement in 2018. He was the morning host on EZ Rock 100.5 FM. He continued to be part of the station’s on-air staff through two rebrandings. EZ Rock became known as “Mix 100” and later “KiSS 100.5”. Scott had previously worked afternoons on KiSS 100.5’s sister station Q104.3. He was also host of “Solid Gold Saturday Night” heard on various Rogers’ FM stations in Ontario including Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and North Bay. The program featured hits from the 1960s and 70s. Scott and his wife Liz call the Sault their home.

On Friday, June 18, 2018 Rogers Media announced that Scott Turnbull would be retiring from KiSS 100.5. Serious heart surgery meant taking a leave of absence since November of 2017. Turnbull had paid a visit to the station in April of that year to say hello to KiSS listeners and to thank those who had been supportive during his time in hospital and during recovery. He returned on Friday, August 10th to bid his audience a proper farewell. He was honoured by industry friends, co-workers and the people of Sault Ste. Marie. He had been in the business for some 43 years!

Scott Turnbull is a sports enthusiast to say the least! Hockey is one of his greatest passions. He served as colour commentator for the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League for ten years, retiring from that position at the end of 2005. He is a huge fan of football especially the Canadian Football League and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Baseball is on his list of likes, particularly the Detroit Tigers of the American Baseball League.

In addition to following his favourite sports teams, Scott promised himself he would spend time working on his golf game. For years he was a motorcycle enthusiast having owned no less than 8 bikes in his day. Today Scott calls himself a “Jeep” man. He became a proud grandfather for the first time in January of 2006 with the birth of Rowan, a son to his daughter Tara. Scott’s second grandchild followed Rowan, a brother, Nolan. Scott is also the proud father of Dave, a professional drummer who works at Laurentian University in Shipping and Receiving. Scott and his wife Liz have a daughter, Samantha, who is studying at Queens University.

Scott acquired the nickname “Bear”, short for “Sugar Bear”, the iconic mascot in the Sugar Crisp commercials. Before radio, Scott was a surveyor. A member of his crew, Harvey, came to work one day and told Scott he looked like “that cartoon bear” in those cereal commercials. The others picked up on the nickname and would eventually shorten the moniker to “Bear”!

These days, Scott works at keeping the house tidy and ensuring that dinner is ready by the time his wife, Liz, gets home. Although dinner may be ready, Scott will tell you he doesn’t actually cook the meal. He says he’s not allowed to touch anything in the kitchen! He makes up for it with the vacuuming, laundry and shovelling!
